Cognitive Functional Therapy for Low Back Pain
JP is co-director of Evoolve Pain Care Academy and Evoolve Certified CFT Trainer.
He is a Specialist Sports Physiotherapist (FACP), Titled Pain Physiotherapist (APAM), Adjunct Associate Professor at Curtin University and Director of Evoolve Pain Care Academy. He has over 20 years of clinical experience and has contributed to more than 60 peer-reviewed publications. JP is internationally recognised for his research and clinical work in persistent musculoskeletal pain and Cognitive Functional Therapy (CFT). He was a key member of the research team behind the landmark RESTORE trial and has played an important role in the development and delivery of CFT education internationally. He continues to combine clinical practice, research and clinician education.

Online

- Prior to the first in-person session - Day 2, watch 5 hours of lectures by Prof. Peter O'Sullivan and A. Prof. JP Caneiro (Evထlve Certified CFT Trainers) about the multidimensional nature of low back pain and Cognitive Functional Therapy
- Complete 4 online quizzes
Day 2
In-person
- Watch Cognitive Functional Therapy consultations including the patient story (interview), physical examination and management plan from the first consultation to post-discharge
- Discuss clinical reasoning with your colleagues and A. Prof. JP Caneiro (Evထlve Certified CFT Trainer)
- Learn about the Cognitive Functional Therapy multidimensional Clinical Reasoning Framework form
Day 3
In-person
- Watch a more complex case application of Cognitive Functional Therapy consultation from the first consultation to post-discharge
- Apply the Cognitive Functional Therapy multidimensional Clinical Reasoning Framework form
- Discuss clinical reasoning with your colleagues and A. Prof. JP Caneiro (Evထlve Certified CFT Trainer)
- Learn about the research supporting the effectiveness of CFT
- Develop an understanding of the training pathway to become an Evထlve Certified CFT Practitioner

Online
- Receive access to the remainder of the course and CFT consultation videos
- Complete the remainder of the online course (1-3 hours)
- Rewatch and revise the content as needed

Tier 1 - KNOWLEDGE is a comprehensive 3-day online course designed to help you develop an understanding about the multidimensional nature of low back pain, person-centred care, advanced clinical reasoning and Cognitive Functional Therapy. You will learn this through the lived experience and journey of two people with disabling back pain.
Through engaging lectures, reflections, and case studies, you will develop a solid understanding of the foundational concepts of Cognitive Functional Therapy.
After successfully completing the final assessment of this course, you will achieve an Evထlve Certificate of Foundational KNOWLEDGE of CFT.
This will allow you to undertake Tier 2 - SKILLS.

SKILLS
Observe. Practice. Reflect.
Tier 2 - SKILLS will be a hybrid online and face-to-face course.
The course uses case-based learning using real patient consultations to develop your practical skills and clinical reasoning in Cognitive Functional Therapy. You will be guided by Evထlve Certified CFT trainers alongside your clinician peers.
Upon successfully completing the final case-based assessment, you will achieve an Evထlve Foundational Knowledge of CFT SKILLS Certificate.
This will allow you to undertake Tier 3 - MENTORING.

MENTORING
Practice. Discuss. Reflect.
MENTORING is a face-to-face or online programme designed to train you towards competence to become an Evထlve Certified Cognitive Functional Therapy Clinician.
A small group of clinicians embark on a clinical journey together under the direct mentoring by an Evထlve Certified CFT Trainer. This process involves live clinical interactions with people who have disabling back pain and peer-peer reflection. Additional resources including ebooks are provided to help you on your journey.
At the end of the training programme, you will undertake a final competency assessment. Upon successful completion you will achieve the title of Evထlve Certified CFT Clinician.
